Out Fireworks - In Flash

When you are finally happy with the image, you'll need to save as a PNG image (if it isn't already). PNG (Portable Network Graphics) is the native file format of Fireworks, and is superior to other formats (like JPEG or GIF) for a number of reasons. Probably most important for this project, the PNG file will allow you to retain layers when you import into Flash.

Let's try it! Choose File > Save As and change the file type to Fireworks PNG:

Now start Flash and Choose File > Import > Import to Stage

When the Import Fireworks Document dialogue box pops up, make certain the single flattened bitmap box is deselected. In fact, make it look like mine:

OK, now we can see the beauty of working with a Fireworks PNG bitmap. My image was imported into a MovieClip. When I edit that MovieClip, I see that the Layer Names have transferred directly into my Flash document:
