Create the Enemy

OK... I sure hope you were successful! Regardless, these are the strategies I employed to meet the challenge:

Start by using Insert > New Symbol:

I drew a simple pink box to act as an enemy placeholder. Maybe I'll find an artist to create a better enemy in the future:

Return to the main Actions window. Your Actions should only be in one place, by the way. Attach a copy of enemy and put it at depth level 3000. Why 3000? I don't know, I just want it at a depth that won't conflict with anything else. If I tried to duplicate my successful attachment of the ship MovieClip at depth level 2000, well, I'd just replace the ship. We can only have one object at each depth:

Now set the x and y properties of enemy. I decided to randomize the y position so it can be anywhere on the vertical stage, and place the x position at 500 for starters.

OK, this is what mine looks like. Keep refreshing the page to verify the vertical position is random:
